Today session, the group got to look at software application on the Macs. In the mourning, We were creating a business card on Photoshop and some people in the group were beginners in adobe Photoshop, Ricardo took a step by step on how to creating a business card. I opened up photoshop and created a new file, named it “Jubedha Business Card” and had the height of the page 55 millimetres and the width 85 millimetres. The resolution was 300 pixel per inch.
I clicked on new layer and named it background fill.
On the sidebar, there are two colour squares, I clicked on the foreground square. We were told to chose any colour, so I just chose yellow. On the image on the right, it shows the colour red and besides the box that is displaying two colours, there is a triangle. The triangle is tell us that on the show it will show that colour however once that colour is printed on paper it will produce a different red and it’ll just look washed out.
To know what colours to avoid if you are printing out such as a Business card, then go view and click on Gamut warning, A grey patch will show up and it’s parts of the colours in the box. The grey is telling us that those colours are not going to produce on to print.
I went to view, show and grid. I done this so that when producing the card, the design and text would be proportioned.
To creating the design that would appear on the front of the business card, I just created different shapes. I clicked on the rectangle tool and drew a rectangle on the page. I went to edit on the dropdown menu, clicked on Perspective. I reshaped the rectangle to a right angle red pyramid. I created multiple shapes and manipulated the shape, sizes and colour.
I created the design for the front of the card. The thought of the design I was going for was a pop art feel and the colour I chosen were bright and colourful. The text I typed down was “JA” which is my initial and the font I chosen was called “SignPainter HouseScript”.
The colour of the text I went for was white. because I chosen white, I thought it would be difficult to see the text against the bright colours so I went to
Because there were a lot of layers from the design and the text, I created a folders for each aspect of a design and put it in another folder called “Business card” so that everything is in one place and it’s organised. After I’ve done that, I duplicated the folder and renamed it “Business card back” because I’m going to create the back of the business card.
I’ve turned off the front layer of the card and turned on the back design. On the back of the card I want information to appear, I’ve chosen the text tool and typed in my name, graphic designer and my email address and my @ name so people could find me on social networking sites. The text is white in colour and because the design colours are so bright, I thought it could be a problem for people to see, so I chosen rectangle tool and highlighted the whole page and filled it in black. I’ve changed the opacity and fill to make the black more transparent so that the design can come through but it isn’t to bright that it’s hard to see the text.
Overall I thought creating a business very simple and easy because I’ve used Photoshop before but I do think that I’ve learnt something new like the Gamut warning and I’ll use that in future work.
